Imphal, June 12 2010:
Noting that prices of many essential commodities have sky-rocketed beyond the reach of common people, consequent upon the prolonged blockade, the Manipur People's Party has sought immediate intervention of the Governor.
A joint meeting of MPP's district level and Kendra level leaders was held today at the party office and discussed about the impacts of the continuing blockade on the life of common people.
Decrying that the Government has failed miserably in controlling price of almost all items, the meeting resolved that the situation demands immediate intervention by the Governor.
It was bewildering that the democratic protesters who were fasting unto death against the unlawful blockade were arrested while very little action has been initiated against those imposing the unlawful blockade, the meeting remarked.
The meeting also adopted a resolution to put in place all requisite man-power to carry on the party's fast unto death campaign until the blockades are lifted.
After MPP president Dr Nimaichand Luwang and vice-president Dr S Dhananjoy were arrested by police for fasting unto death, three other party leaders took over the campaign since yesterday.
Meanwhile, the Khongjom Circle Meira Paibi Forum has lauded the MPP's campaign against the prolonged blockade.
The forum also demanded immediate lifting of the blockade.
