Co-ordinating Committee of 27-Assembly Constituencies has expressed disappointment over the State Cabinet's recommendation to summon the 4th Session of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly on August 21, 2023 despite the public demand to convene an Emergency Assembly Session at the earliest.
In a release, the Committee extended its appreciation to the public for supporting the General Strike imposed from August 4 midnight.
The Committee questioned the reason behind the State Cabinet's decision to recommend the Session of Manipur Legislative Assembly after the conclusion of the Monsoon Session of the Parliament of August 11, 2023 .
The Committee asserted that the decision to not call an Emergency Assembly Session has raised serious questions over the State Government's stand on the unreasonable demands of the Kuki community.
The Committee urged the State Government to consider the gravity of the present situation and convene an Emergency Assembly Session under "Rule 4 clause (2) 1st Proviso of the Rule of Procedure and conduct of Business" before the conclusion of the Monsoon Session of the Parliament.
The Committee also appealed to all the public leaders/ representatives to pressure the Chief Minister to convene the Emergency Assembly Session at the earliest.
The Committee further announced that as the Government has issued a notification to convene the Assembly Session, the proposed sit-in protest in front of the residence of MLAs/Ministers has been suspended for now.
