Two killed in gun-fight; five hurt in RAF crackdown

Two Kuki-Zo village defence volunteers lost their lives and same number suffered injuries in a gunfight in Gothol and Phoisanphai areas early Friday morning.
According to ITLF spokesperson Rose Ngaihte, Kuki-Zo village defence volunteers guarding their posts at Gothol and Phoisanphai were attacked at about 3.30am Friday.
While retaliation by the village volunteers led to a fierce gun-fight that continued till late afternoon, two village defence volunteers got killed and two others left wounded in indiscriminate shelling of bombs and firing from automatic rifles towards the posts, she said adding that three of the attackers were also slain in counter attack by the volunteers.
The deceased village volunteers have been identified as Jangkhomang (34), son of Mangzalet of G Mongjang village, and Johny (30), son of Khupthang of Zalenphai and the injured as Jangkhothang (33), son of Jangkhogin of Gothol and Kamneihlun (24), son of Letkhothang of Kangvai.
In another incident, at least five persons protesting the burning of some tribal houses at Gothol on Saturday morning were injured when RAF personnel fired towards them at Torbung Bangla at about 1.30pm.The injured are identified as Thanglet (50), wife of Thangvom of Bijang; Jamkhongam (50), son of Jangkholun of Phaipijang; Janggoulun (25), son of Thonkhothang of Tuibong; Ginbarron (25), son of Nehlai of Tuibong; and Haolienmang (29 ) son of Nehkhogin of B Aijalon.
Condition of one of the injured persons is said to be serious.
