Imphal, August 05 2023:
Many organisations including Federation of Civil Societies (FOCS) Manipur, Macha Leima and MMWO have condemned in the strongest term the murder of three sleeping Meitei people at Kwakta Ward No 8, Bishnupur district in the wee hours today by Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists.
MMWO president Boboi Korimayum said that the triple murder was inhuman and cowardly.
He also appealed to all the people not to spread rumours or false propaganda with regard to the particular incident which may project Meitei Pangals in the wrong light.
The Macha Leima too has condemned the triple murder by Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists in the strongest term.
Saying that the murder was dastardly, the Macha Leima urged the Government to deploy additional State forces in the area so as to thwart such attacks in the future.
Speaking to media persons at their Wangkhei Ningthem Pukhri Mapal office this afternoon, FOCS president Th Manihar decried that murdering sleeping people was a dastardly act of terrorism.
The incident testified the treacherous and cowardly attitude of Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists, he said.
"FOCS also condemns the brutal crackdown on civilians by Assam Rifles troops on Thursday in Phougakchao area which resulted in injuries to many women", Manihar said.
In the midst of the growing suspicion that Kuki militants were present among the AR troops, using electrified concertino or barb wire apart from firing several rounds of tear gas shells and mock bombs upon the protesters was too much, he said.
He said that the Government should identify all the bodies currently lying at RIMS and JNIMS mortuaries.
If there are any foreigners, the Government should not allow them to be buried in any part of Manipur, he said.
If these bodies should be handed over to Kuki CSOs, they should be asked to bring the bodies of all those Meitei people who could not be traced so far, Manihar said.
The Hmar People's Convention (Democratic) circulated a statement in their own dialect on August 2 claiming that Jiribam is their land.
Even though the HPC(D) issued another statement yesterday informing that they have withdrawn their claim, the particular claim cannot be taken lightly.
The Government should take up strong action against the outfit, said the FOCS president.
Saying that the general strike called by the Coordinating Committee of 27 Assembly Constituencies turned out to be serious impediment to relief works and movement of volunteers defending Meitei villages from Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists, he appealed to the committee to choose other modes of agitation.
There is a little alteration to the resolution adopted at the convention organised by FOCS.
The resolution to take out a march toward Churachandpur and Kangpokpi on August 13 has been altered as August 13 is the Patriots' Day.
Instead, the march would be taken out on August 15, he said.
