Imphal, August 05 2023:
Jiribam Development Organisation (JDO) has condemned the statement of Hmar People's Convention (HPC-D) claiming Jiribam as Hmar land and for inclusion of Jiribam in the 'separate administration' demand of the Kuki MLAs and militants.
In a statement, JDO president E Dewan Singh said that the people of Jiribam have been appealing for peace and normalcy in the state following the attack carried out Kuki militants against the Meitei community in different parts of the state.
Till date, Jiribam has been peaceful with no unwanted incidents happening.
However, the claim by HPC (D) in a statement issued on August 2 that Jiribam is land of Hmar community and demand for inclusion of Jiribam in the 'separate administration' demand of the armed Kuki militants tantamount to provoking Jiribam denizens, JDO said and advised HPC-D to refrain from scheming to disturb peace and tranquility in Jiribam.
The release also said that any unwanted incident arising out of the attempt by any community, organisation or individual to destroy peace in Jiribam should be their sole responsibility and that JDO will not remain silent under such situation.
JDO also expressed gratitude to all the CSOs of Hmar community in condemning the statement of HPC (D) and subsequent withdrawal of their statement.
