Imphal, August 05 2023:
The 24 hour public curfew imposed by the Coordinating Committee of 27 Assembly Constituencies from yesterday's midnight forced the valley districts, mainly Imphal to come to a complete standstill today.
All economic and transportation activities were stopped in the wake of the public curfew imposed and supported by various sections of the society as a mark of protest against the State Government's indifferent attitude towards the appeal for an "emergency Assembly session" .

The committee had urged the State Government to convene the special session by August 2 in a meeting held on July 26 to discuss and work out a solution to the prevailing crisis and reaffirm the stand to safeguard the State's integrity and send a concrete resolution to the Parliament.
During the said meeting it was also resolved to carry out other democratic forms of protests in case the State Government does not pay heed to the appeal.
Imphal wore a deserted look with all business establishments, Government offices, schools and colleges remaining closed and vehicles remaining off the road.
Womenfolk in large numbers effectively stopped vehicular movement from early morning at numerous points.
Movement of emergency and essential service providers were however allowed.
Roadblocks were also set up at various locations while short rallies were staged in some localities.
At some locations, the public curfew supporters burnt effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Chief Minister N Biren, Power Minister Th Biswajit and State BJP unit president A Sharda Devi.
In view of the tense situation at various strategic locations and the news of cold blooded murder of three Meiteis during their sleep at Kwakta allegedly by Kuki militants doing the rounds, curfew relaxation in the twin capital districts and Bishnupur district was curtailed at 10.30 am today.
Despite the shortening of the curfew relaxation period, men and women came out in large numbers and enforced public curfew along major roads till late evening.
No untoward incident occurred till the time of filing this report.
