Imphal, August 05 2023:
Reacting to a viral video of an Assam Rifles officer and personnel dancing with Kuki women, which reportedly took place in Kangpokpi district, RPI Athawale national secretary Thounaojam Maheshwar has questioned the sagacity of Assam Rifles in the context of current crisis.
Maheshwar raised the question during an interview with Delhi-based media influencers on Saturday in relation with the murder of three innocent Meetei civilians by Kuki militants at Kwakta village in Bishnupur.
During the interview, Maheshwar asked if the nation still wants to believe the propaganda of Kuki and their narratives of being the victims even as Kuki militants sneaked into a Meetei village and butchered three civilians during their sleep.
He also contended that attempt by Kuki organisations to convert a government farmland in Meetei settlement of Torbung Bangla into a mass burial site of Kukis is the one of the reasons for the fresh round of violence in the state.
Recounting how the Kuki groups objected to proper identification of the deceased Kukis and those in the relief camps, he questioned the rationale for allowing, if any, burial of illegal infiltrators in the state's territory.
With reference to allegation that Manipur police are biased, he said that the whole nation can see how the state police reacted against unruly mob in the valley area.
He also brought up the inactivity of Assam Rifles in the hills against Kuki mobs and questioned if Assam Rifles has done anything noteworthy to prevent incendiary acts by Kuki mobs so far.
