They were produced before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal West by a team of Imphal police station today along with a prayer for three days police custody remand.

Through an APP, the IO of the case submitted that police came across a viral video on January 7 evening where a young woman was mercilessly beaten up by a group of people including both men and women, suspected to be members of Huiyen Mamom on the alleged charges of celebrating Bye Bye (December 31 night) and New Year's Day by consuming liquors.

The viral video shows the accused persons directly taking law into their hands and assaulting the young lady with a criminal force with intent to outrage her modesty and her social status by transmitting the video on various social media platforms.

Based on the viral video, a suo moto case was registered against them.

The APP further submitted that during the course of investigation, the victim of the viral video was identified and was found under trauma and medical treatment.

As such, she could not be examined. Nonetheless, the victim's mother stated that her daughter has a certain mental illness since childhood.

Her daughter was taken to a ground located somewhere in Imphal West district by a group of unknown ladies on January 1 and they assaulted her daughter on the charges of celebrating the 31st December night and New Year's Day by consuming alcohol and sharing a live video on Facebook.

The alleged accused persons were arrested yesterday night and on preliminary interrogation they all admitted to have committed the charges levelled against them.

Investigation also revealed that the accused persons intentionally/deliberately took the victim to the ground and assaulted her on the charges of celebrating Bye Bye and New Year by consuming alcohol and sharing live video on Facebook.

Investigation also revealed that the accused persons were involved in a similar case of a viral video where a lady was slapped by a group of people suspected to be members of Huiyen Mamom.

The Court, after hearing the submission of the IO and on perusal of the material on record, remanded them to police custody for three days for smooth investigation of the case.
