Imphal, January 10 2024:
The Manipur Users Collective (MUC) has extended its gratitude to the State Government for implementing "Cheingak Khonghou" scheme.
In a statement signed by its Chairperson Gautam Salam, MUC said that the initiation of "Cheingak Khonghou" scheme, a one-time financial assistance programme for higher education students affected by HIV, HCV, and HBV, underscores the Government's commitment to supporting the education and empowerment of vulnerable communities.
"The MUC extends its sincere appreciation and heartfelt gratitude to the Manipur Government, with a special acknowledgment to the Higher Education Department (U) under the commendable leadership of Director, Rangitabali Waikhom, IAS, for their humane undertaking in implementing the "Cheingak Khonghou" scheme, it added.
Saying that 112 students from across the State were selected for the scheme during a 'poignant' State-level function organized by the Government of Manipur of which 10 students were given a cheque of Rs 10,000, the MUC said that they applaud the Government's proactive approach to inclusivity and support for these students.
Additionally, Chief Minister N Biren Singh, along with Education Minister Th Basantakumar Singh distributed smartphones to these students as part of the "College Fagathansi Mission," it continued and maintained that the financial assistance of Rs 10,000 and the provision of smartphones are invaluable contributions that will significantly ease the educational pursuit for this section of students.
MUC believes that such initiatives not only address immediate financial needs amidst the present crisis but also provides a beacon of hope to these students in strengthening their higher educational dreams with greater confidence, the MUC added.
Celebrating the 'commendable step' of the Government, the MUC urged the related departments to continue their efforts in addressing the broader issues being faced by HIV infected and affected population across all age groups and vulnerable communities in the State.
It is high time for the relevant authorities to take up certain measures exclusively for PLHIV in pubescent age groups and ensure the HIV/AIDS policies by the Central Government are not only practiced but effectively implemented to safeguard the rights and well-being of this marginalized section of people, MUC concluded.
