Imphal, August 04 2023: Zeliangrong Union (Assam, Manipur & Nagaland) has expressed its disappointment and suspicion over the incident that took place on July 31, 2023 wherein several houses were gutted by an inferno at Canaan Veng and neighbouring Kekru Villa Pt II, North AOC.

In a release, ZU(AMN) informed that fire also burnt down three blocks of Naga Hindi Vidyapeeth Complex quarters, Quest House which is located at Kekru Villa Pt II .

Highlighting that the exact cause of the fire could not be ascertained till date, the Union stated that it might not have been caused by an electric circuit as the house where the fire originated was abandoned in the wake of the ethnic violence.

The Union continued that as per local residents, there was no visible lighting in the house since the outbreak of the violence.

It also mentioned that an authentic report can be ascertained from the VDF personnel who have been manning and guarding Canaan Veng since May 5, 203 .

"Therefore, ZU(AMN) draws immediate attention of the authorities concerned to investigate the unfortunate incident and provide adequate relief & compensation to the fire victim families who are now taking shelter in a relief camp operated by the localities of Kekru Villa, North AOC", it concluded.
