International conference on 'Agriculture in Hilly and Mountain Landscape' begins

A three days international conference on "Agriculture in Hilly and Mountain Landscape" organised by Central Agricultural University (CAU), Imphal in collaboration with Indian Society of Agricultural Economics, Mumbai was inaugurated on November 22 at the College of PG Studies in Agricultural Sciences, Umiam.
The inaugural ceremony was attended by Dr Dinesh Kumar Marothia, president, ISAE, Mumbai; Dr Anupam Mishra, Vice Chancellor, CAU, Imphal; Dr Prabhudatta Sahoo, General Manager/OIC, NABARD; Dr Vinay Kumar Mishra, Director, ICAR NEH; Isawanda Laloo, IAS, Secretary, Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare Department, Government of Meghalaya; Prof Prabha Shankar Shukla, Vice Chancellor, NEHU; Dr Tej Partap, former Vice Chancellor, CSKHPAU and GBPUAT presidium members.
Faculties, staff and students of College of Agriculture (COA), Iroisemba, CAU, Imphal also attended the inaugural function via video conferencing, said a release issued by Dean, COA, CAU, Imphal.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Dinesh Kumar Marothia said that organising the conference in a State of North East is important taking into account the rich and diverse ecosystem of the region.
"It offers different types of Agricultural practices which need to be discussed and shared for development of new technologies in Agriculture", said Dr Dinesh while calling upon all the stakeholders for their collective effort for advancement of agriculture in the hilly and mountain regions.
Dr Anupam Mishra emphasized on the achievements of CAU, Imphal.
He also stressed on the richness of bioresources of the North East Region and its potential for improving the economy of the farmers as well as the region.
During the three-day conference, 14 keynote papers, 150 research papers are to be presented by eminent scientists/academicians from India and other foreign countries like Thailand, Bangladesh, Philippines, Bhutan, Nepal and Srilanka.
In addition, 88 posters from different participants are to be displayed in the conference.
The conference is sponsored by Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), Meghalaya Basin Development Authority(MBMA), Indian Council of Social Science Research, New Delhi, Spice Board and National Agricultural Higher Education Project (NAHEP) .
