2117 displaced students given access to free education, says Bishnupur ZEO

Bishnupur, September 19 2023: Zonal Education Officer, Zone IV, Bishnupur N Chingkhei has asserted that till date 2117 young students seeking shelter in different relief camps set up in Bishnupur district have been admitted to educational institutes close to their camps and thus provided with access to free education.

The ZEO shared the information during a relief extension initiative organised by the Relief Help Committee at Moirang College Relief Camp yesterday under his supervision.

It is worth pointing out that the Relief Help Committee is formed by Government and Government Aided-School teachers in Bishnupur district.

During the aid extension effort, the Relief Help Committee team handed over rice, lentils, potable water, amul cool, exercise books, pencils, pens and other stationery and essential items to the inmates of Moirang College Relief Camp.

Speaking in this connection, the Zone IV ZEO commended the Bishnupur district Government and Government-Aided school teachers for organising the humanitarian initiative.

Stating that Bishnupur is one of the most vulnerable areas that has been greatly impacted by the ongoing crisis in the State, N Chingkhei shared that in recognition of this fact, the Education Director had made arrangements for distribution of sports items, text books etc at numerous relief camps in the district.

Maintaining that Bishnupur Deputy Commissioner L Bikram had also extended his help and support to this effort, he conveyed that the relief items had been distributed through the Public Relation Officers of many MLAs.

Speaking about the education of the displaced students, the ZEO continued to share that there are 2117 students scattered across various relief camps in Bishnupur district.

All these children between classes I to XII have been admitted at their nearby schools where they have started attending classes.

In addition, more than 130 young children displaced from other districts and seeking shelter in Bishnupur (not in relief camps) have also been given their respective identity cards and provided with access to free education.

Referring to the relief items distributed, he added that arrangements have been made to provide the children with free school bags next, while plans are under process for distribution of school uniforms.

Further, he stated that the State Government has commenced distribution of free textbooks to students from class I to XII.
