Imphal, December 26 2010:
Manipur People's Party (MPP) today strongly criticized the ruling Congress led SPF government charging that despite the people being at the limit of their woes due to the prolonged armed conflict, government is unable to find a solution to end the conflict.
The MPP celebrated its 43rd foundation day today in the party office.
MLA O Joy said that security forces break the law while countering separatists, and the separatists too have on their side broken their "code of conduct".
In this situation the government instead of finding a solution to end the conflict remains a silent spectator.
Ministers and MLAs are working only for their interests.
He also said the Centre has admitted that insurgency in the state cannot be ended by a military solution but the Centre is yet to find a way to bring the separatists to the negotiating table.
He asked if after more than six decades do Manipuris get equal rights as citizens of India.
MLA RK Anand who also talked on the occasion said the divide and rule policy of the British is being applied to Manipur by the Central government.
"We should know that the recent tripartite talks held in Senapati district was a part of such a policy" .
The MLA said that people in the state do not enjoy equal rights under the Indian Constitution was made clear by the long concealment of UNLF chairman, RK Meghen after he was arrested from Bangladesh.
Anand further said, the state government as well as lawyers and advocates in the state did nothing to challenge the act of the Centre.
This was unfortunate for the people of the state.
Party president, Dr Nimaichand Luwang, former MLAs of the party, L Jatra and S Natum also spoke on the occasion.
