Imphal, December 26 2010:
Candidates selected for appointment as Rifleman in 2nd IRB under Die-in-Harness scheme have mooted to call 48 hours general strike from midnight of January 7 till Jan 9 midnight in protest against delay in giving them appointment orders.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club this afternoon, joint secretary of the JAC Appointment Under Die-in-Harness Scheme of Riflemen, Sarju Naorem said that following call letters sent by the Home Department on October 29, 2008 for appointment as Rifleman in 2nd IRB under Die-in-Harness Scheme, due recruitment process was initiated.
Out of 77 candidates who participated in the recruitment process, 55 got through the process.
Subsequently, list of 55 qualified candidates was submitted to the Police Headquarters by the 2nd IRB CO who was also chairman of the recruitment committee.
IGP (Administration) then forwarded the same list to Principal Secy (Home) seeking appointment approval.
But the same file has since then remained stuck in the Secretariat, Sarju said.
Even as the qualified candidates tried to take up the matter with the Chief Minister, they were not given the necessary appointment.
Saying that they have learnt about the Chief Secretary sending the file for production in a Cabinet meeting, Sarju said the JAC have decided to call a 48 hours general strike with effect from January 7 midnight in case the qualified candidates are not given appointment orders by the same day.
