Oil spill flows into rivulet

Imphal, January 10 2024:
In a disturbing incident, a pitch black liquid suspected to be black furnace oil was found flowing in a portion of the rivulet which originates from Kangpokpi and passes through Imphal West.
The thick black liquid was detected at Kanto Sabal under Sekmai police station tonight.
After contacting the control room set up to clear the rumour, The Sangai Express has confirmed that the development is true.
People have stopped using the water from the rivulet.
Speaking to this reporter, a local of Kanto Sabal said that they call the rivulet where furnace oil was found flowing as Loukhong.
Saying that the rivulet runs beside the Heavy Fuel Power Plant at Leimakhong and passes through Leimakhong Chingmang, Khurkhul, Loitang Khunou, Loitang Khullen before winding its course to Luwangli River, he added that Luwangli is a tributary of Nambul River which connects with Loktak Lake.
He contended that the furnace oil might have been released by the miscreants to the rivulet deliberately.
He said that the locals have informed the Army at Leimakhong about the development.
For now it is not known whether the oil was released to the river accidentally or deliberately by the miscreants.
