Senapati, August 01 2023:
The United Naga Council (UNC) has directed the Naga Legislators not to succumb to the diktats of some CSOs in the face of the strong demand for convening a "Special Assembly Session" on or before August 5 to protect the territorial integrity of Manipur.
In a statement, UNC said imposing the same demand by valley CSOs on all MLAs including the Naga legislators to stand in their interest is highly uncalled for in the fluid situation.
It is high time, communities living in the State realize and respect each different position and historical facts.
Naga people will not accept any kind of imposition under any circumstances, it said.
UNC is required to direct all the Naga legislators to abstain from such Assembly Session convened under the dictate of some CSOs, it said.
The Government of India's insidious policy of encouraging cross-border inflow of population from Myanmar should be stopped immediately as continuous influx of illegal immigrants from the porous Indo-Myanmar border will create a serious demographic crisis and wide raging ramification, it said.
It is alarming to learn of the fresh influx of illegal immigrants (Myanmar Nationals) along the Indo-Myanmar border in Chandel district to the tune of 718 persons in just a day as per the report of Assam Rifles of 29th Sector dated July 23, 2023, it noted.
The diabolical design of the Home Ministry, Government of India is nothing but to crush the indigenous people and to serve their whims and desires in the region.
To this end, the State Government should initiate stringent steps to curb the menace, it said.
In the wake of ever increasing influx of illegal immigrants and to curb the unwarranted population invasion in the State, the State Government should implement the National Register of Citizens at the earliest possible, UNC further declared.
