Imphal, August 01 2023:
While refuting the allegations levelled by Rongmei Naga Luh Phwam (Imphal Luangrian) and other tribal organisations in connection with a row over reopening of the New Checkon tribal market, Nongpok Ingkhol Pioneer Club (NIPC) genera secretary S Somananda has called for an understanding among the stakeholders prior to actual trading activities in the market.
Addressing a press meet at Nongpok Ingkhol, Imphal East on Tuesday, Somananda said that the tribal market has been shut down for around three months following the crisis in the state.
Few days back, some persons were seen cleaning the market to which some Meira Paibi members of Nongpok Ingkhol enquired.
They found that the women cleaning the market were from the Kabui community, who were enquired if have approval for reopening the market, to which they responded that they will resume their trade activities.
Though there was some misunderstanding and miscommunication that day, the club is of the opinion that a proper understanding among the primary stakeholders of the market before taking any decision to reopen the same is of utmost importance.
The market has had women vendors from not only tribal communities but also those of Meetei and Meitei Pangal, and as such, it would be better if an understanding is worked out among them so that unwanted incidents could be averted, he stressed while urging for concerted efforts of all the communities to prevent any future incidents.
