Imphal, August 01 2023:
On the charge of having connection with the Meiteis, Kom Union Manipur (KUM) president Serto Ahao Kom was thrashed black and blue by Kuki militants.
The Kuki militants thrashed Serto Ahao Kom mercilessly and his left hand got fractured.
With bruises on several parts of his body, Serto Ahao Kom has been admitted to RIMS.
Speaking to reporters at the hospital, the KUM president said that he was halted by around 30 armed Kuki militants near Chingphei village as he went to his Khoirentak residence, Churachandpur from Langol Tarung at around 8.30 pm yesterday.
He was travelling alone in a car (Tiago).

In the next moment, the Kuki militants dragged Serto Ahao Kom inside a house of Chingphei Kuki village.
Accusing the KUM president of having nexus with Arambai Tenggol, Meetei Leepun and COCOMI, the militants started beating him.
The Kuki militants further alleged that Serto Ahao Kom was directly involved in the incident of burning down some houses at Khongnangpokpi village at the border of Kangpokpi district and Imphal West district on July 3 .
The Kuki militants further charged the 45 year old KUM president that his wife was directly involved in flagging off a group of people from Maibung Kom village, Imphal East district who would participate in the peace rally organised by the COCOMI on July 29 at Imphal.
Recounting the incident, Serto Ahao Kom said that the Kuki militants first put a gun on his head before snatching his mobile phone.
Then he was taken inside a house of Chingphei Kuki village where he was thrashed mercilessly with firewood (Shingaibak) .
In the meantime, some of the Kuki militants opened his phone's call history and checked if he had communicated with any member of Arambai Tenggol, Meetei Leepun and COCOMI.
They also asked him repeatedly if he had connections with any of these Meitei organisations.
Serto Ahao Kom replied that the Kom community has been maintaining total neutrality in the ongoing conflict between the Kukis and Meiteis, and they have been only working to bring peace and harmony in the State.
"In the course of their violent interrogation, I came to know that they (Kuki militants) had been seeking an opportunity to talk with me since some time back", he said.
The KUM president said that he recently went to Guwahati and Delhi for medical treatment of one of his family members.
After thrashing him black and blue, Serto Ahao Kom was locked inside a toilet for the whole night.
At around 10.30 am today, the Kuki militants told him that they had to interrogate him as they received an intelligence report from their own source.
Saying that their intelligence report had turned out to be false and that he was innocent, the Kuki militants apologised to Serto Ahao Kom.
Later, some armed men brought the KUM president to the edge of Chingphei Kuki village in a Gypsy and set him free there.
