Imphal, July 09 2023:
Searches are on at different locations to locate and recover bodies of Sagolsem Ngalleiba and Irengbam Chingkheinganba, who are suspected to have been killed by Kuki militants, Chief Minister N Biren Singh has told JAC and family members today.
Speaking to reporters at Manipur Press Club, JAC convenor Thingujam Kiran said Sagolsem Ngalleiba (33) and Irengbam Chingkheinganba (26) hailed from Sekmaijin Khunou Awang Leikai in Kakching district and they have been "brutally murdered" by the Kuki militants.
He said the JAC members have met with Chief Minister N Biren Singh today and he (Biren) informed that searches are on at different locations to trace their bodies.
Th Kiran said the two youths had gone to Awang Leikinthabi as volunteers to guard Meitei settlements and their deaths were known after a video surfaced on social media recently.
The families and relatives have not been conducting their last rites as Meitei customs require their bodies, he said.
In the meantime some papers have "unfortunately" published reports that the army has recovered the bodies of the two persons, he said.
Urging CSOs for their assistance in searching the "bodies", Th Kiran appealed to the civil bodies, local clubs and Meira Paibis to hold Meira rallies tomorrow night.
