Imphal, July 09 2023:
The JAC formed against the brutal killing of Sagol-sem Ngalleiba and Irengbam Chingkheinganba of Sekmaijin Khunou Awang Leikai, who was executed by Kuki militants after torture, appealed to the government to retrieve their bodies and hand them over to the family members.
Addressing the media at Ma-nipur Press Club here on Sunday, JAC convenor Thingujam Kiran said that the two youths went missing since June 4 after they went to help village vol-unteers of Leikinthabi during a clash with Kuki militants.
The next day, two videos of Kuki militants torturing and executing them went viral on social media.
The JAC met the chief minister twice after the incident during which, the CM said efforts are on to trace them.
It has been six days since they were executed, he said and appealed to the govern-ment to put maximum efforts in retrieving their bodies so that their family members could conduct their last rites as per ritual.
He also appealed to the clubs and Meira Paibi groups of different locality to organise a Meira Rally on Monday night as a mark of protest against the execution and to press the government to speed up the investigation.
Amit the situation, some me-dia reports claimed that Indian Army had traced the bodies and are trying to retrieve them, which turned out to be false.
Stating that such unconfirmed reports only heightens the anx-iety of the family members, he appealed to all concerned to refrain from making such reports without confirmation.
