Imphal, July 09 2023:
Lamenting the prolonged crisis besieging the State, the World Manipuri Women Federation has warned to take up a series of agitation against the State and the Central Governments if they fail to end the crisis within a week.
Addressing the media at Manipur Press Club today, spokesperson of the federation, N Kabita asked as to why the Government of India and the State Government have failed to control the turmoil even after two months.
The State and the Centre lack commitment in dealing with the situation and the never ending crisis has been .
heaping more misery to all each passing day.
If the State and the Central Government are committed, the crisis should end in no time, she said.
Kabita also said the Government of India should make its policy towards Manipur clear to the people.
Taking note of the acts of terrorism perpetrated upon innocent and unarmed civilians by Kuki militants under SoO pact with the State and the Central Government she demanded a thorough probe into their involvement in the present crisis.
Stringent actions should be taken up against them for flouting SoO ground rules, she said.
It is very unfortunate that political parties are divided at such a critical juncture instead of uniting themselves and working towards a solution to the present crisis, she said.
Political drama and efforts to take political mileage during such perilous time is uncalled for, she added.
What is more saddening is that the Chief Minister who is at the helm of the State Government has been rendered toothless and has to wait for Centre's intervention everytime.
If the Chief Minister is unable to stamp his authority and end the crisis, there is no point for him to hold on to his post, she said.
Kabita also expressed concern over the biased and partial acts of the Central security forces, specially Assam Rifles.
These security forces have been exposed for aiding Kuki militants indirectly and blatantly on several occasions since the outbreak of the crisis, she said.
Asking whether they are here for restoration of order and provide security to the people or create divisions, she urged the Government of India to remove biased Assam Rifles from Manipur. Expressing regret over ineffectiveness in restoring normalcy despite huge deployment of central forces, she also urged the Government of India to make its intention clear.
"Don't make the people of Manipur victims of India's foreign policy," she said while reiterating the federation's call to stop the violence and immediate restoration of peace and normalcy.
