3rd FutGal-Girls football tourney kicks off at Saikul

The 3rd edition of FutGal-Girls Football Tournament with the theme "Empowering women and girls through sport" kicked off at Saikul block playground on Monday.
The opening ceremony of the tournament jointly organised by InSIDE-North East and KSO Saikul was graced by Kamcha Chongloi, president Saikul United Veteran (SUV), as chief guest while Seiminthang Tuboi, principal Thangtong Hr Sec School, and Neinu Lupheng, president Kuki Women Union (Saikul) were present as guest of honour and functional president respectively.
The event was also attended by leaders of various civil bodies such as Kuki Inpi Saikul Gamkai, All Saikul Football Association, etc.
The tournament was opened with a dedicatory prayer from Pastor Lenpu Touthang, CBCA, Sh Avenue.
Speaking on the occasion, Kamcha Chongloi, president SUV, appreciated the organising committee and exhorted the girls to take up football as a career and play with discipline and team spirit, while Neinu Lupheng, president KWU Saikul, said that girls are not commodities and must be treated as human beings.
She also asked the girl players to play for empowerment.
Hejang Misao, director InSIDE-North East, remarked that he sees a better future for women and girls with the changing world and said that "our women and girls are not meant for kitchen, washing clothes, or household chores.
If other women can go into space, scale the highest peak and lead the world in politics, why not our girls" .
"Create a platform for their growth and development then they will prove to the world that they are capable", Hejang Misao asserted.
He also exhorted participating teams in the FutGal to play for fun and also play for a better future.
15 teams will vie for the tournament's title that carries a cash prize of Rs 50,000 and runners-up prize of Rs 30,000 .
