Churachandpur, January 24 2022:
K Hangzo (retd IDAS), on Monday announced his candidacy for the upcoming state assembly election from Singhat (Singngat) constituency.
He said that he will be contesting on Congress (I) party ticket as Singngat has not been properly represented since the last many years and will ensure all the tribal sub-plans are implemented properly if elected.
K Hangzo further said that if he becomes an MLA, he would make every effort to develop the Behiang Border Trade Centre as per the Act East Policy, adding that there are many flagship programmes under which lots of funds are provided and they have been implemented by the state and the local MLA has a say in that matter.
Hangzo noted that Singngat is a very crucial constituency, being a border trade centre and it shares border with Chin Hills of Myanmar, adding ethnic Chin people come to visit not only their brethren in India but also for trade.
The MLA aspirant expressed his desire for extension of the free movement regime (FMR) between India and Myanmar as people from both the countries could have free access up to 60 kms from the present 16 kms only.
Hangzo further said that Behiang is very important politically and economically and the BJP government has taken up works for the commercial development of Behiang but they are not doing enough.
He then said that the MGNREGS was introduced during the Congress regime and many centrally-sponsored schemes introduced by the Congress have been trimmed down by the BJP government.
Hangzo went on to say that Congress is a grand old party having good ideology based on the principle of secularism, good discipline and democratic way of functioning and is diametrically different from the BJP style of functioning.
Under BJP, he said, "we can see many atrocities committed against minority Christians, Muslims or burning of churches, with many unwanted restrictions on freedom in the country" .
