Workshop on empowerment of women held

In connection with the observance of National Girl Child Day-2022, Senapati district administration and ICDS Cell organised a one day workshop on 'Empowerment of women' at Mao-Poumai Women hall, Senapati on Monday.
The workshop was attended by Senapati DC Mahesh Chaudhari, ICDS Cell DPO Chasiiru, staff of the ICDS and students.
Speaking as chief guest of the programme, Mahesh Chaudhari assured of dedicating a separate room for girl students in the existing district library within a short span of time.
The DC also called upon all the girls to share their valuable suggestions to the district administration and the ICDS cell, Senapati for the development of girl child in the district.
Another innovative idea of the district administration is to provide a vehicle for feeding girl child in the district with assistance from the PHED, he added.
The DC called for encouraging the girl child in sports career as many are capable and have brought laurels to the state and country in the past apart from academic excellence.
Additional public prosecutor Koshia Mao spoke on the topic 'Legal rights of women' as resource person.
While noting that women often get teased, harassed, abused, raped and kidnapped on different occasions, she said that to prevent gender-based crimes, the central government provided crucial rights to Indian women.
Unfortunately, many of the women do not know their rights, she lamented.
For ensuring gender equality, the government also provides 12 rights to Indian women such as right to equal pay, right to dignity and decency, right against workplace harassment, right against domestic violence, female sexual assault victims having the right to keep their identity anonymous, right to get free legal aid, right to register virtual complaints, right against indecent representation, right against being stalked and right to file FIR, she informed.
MANEDA Senapati project coordinator and counsellor Meveine Kazia Sousho and Rainbow Fashion proprietor TT Lungbila also spoke during the workshop as resource persons.
