BJP Parl board to finalise candidates today

Imphal, January 24 2022:
The National Parliamentary Board of BJP would be convening a meeting in New Delhi on Tuesday in connection with the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly Election, scheduled on February 27 and March 3 .
Presently, Chief Minister N Biren, BJP Manipur Pradesh president A Sharda, and minister Th Biswajit are in Delhi for finalisation of the party candidates.
The party's state unit had earlier conducted a meeting of the election committee wherein tentative lists of candidates were prepared.
The Parliamentary Board meeting will be finalising and announcing the candidates for the 1st phase of the polls late Tuesday evening or by January 27 .
As the Republic Day would be celebrated on January 26, CM N Biren, president A Sharda, and minister Th Biswajit would be returning to Imphal on Tuesday.
For the 1st phase, BJP is likely to announce the names of 30 candidates with priority on constituencies with minimum number of intending party candidates particularly those with single intending candidates in constituencies under Churachandpur, Kangpokpi, Imphal East and Imphal West districts, sources conveyed.
It may be mentioned here that a meeting of BJP core committee was held on Sunday regarding announcement of the party candidates.
On the other hand, following reports that BJP would be announcing the names of candidates, a large number of state and central security forces have been deployed near the party's office in Nityaipat Chuthek here.
The security measures were taken up to prevent any unwanted incidents arising out of failure to get the party tickets, especially with large number of intending BJP candidates seeking party tickets to contest in the election, a report informed.
