Bilei YC down Geljang FC to win FutGal girls' football trophy

Bilei Youth Club girls won the 3rd edition of FutGal-Girls Football Tournament jointly organised by KSO Saikul and InSIDE North East at Saikul block ground.
The Bilei girls defeated A Geljang Football Club 6-4 via tie break in the final match and walked away with a cash prize of Rs 50,000 and a trophy while runners-up A Geljang FC received a cash prize of Rs 30,000 and'a trophy.
The football ground filled with sounds of gong, drum and trumpet as supporters from both sides cheered their teams.
The closing ceremony was graced by Paokam Kipgen, social worker, Hekim Lupheng, social activist, and Lalpu Khongsai, entrepreneur (proprietor of Shitwi Theng) as chief guest, guest of honour and functional president respectively.
While lauding the organising team InSIDE-North East and KSO (Saikul), Paokam Kipgen, exhorted the girls to be strong and be assertive of their rights while challenging them to take active part in politics and fight for their welfare and development.
Hejang Misao, director InSIDE-North East, in his keynote address congratulated the two finalists - Bilei YC and A Geljang FC and said that InSIDE-North East started FutGal with a vision to create a platform for girls where their skills can be honed to become good players to any level - be it state, national or international.
He also mentioned that from the tournament promising players were selected and given football coaching and as a result of which, 11 girls successfully are playing in various clubs now.
Football should be played for fun as well as for career, he further said, while exhorting the players to continue going to schools/colleges while making football as their career.
"If anyone couldn't afford education, InSIDE-North East will leave no stone unturned to let them get education," he promised.
