Imphal, July 08 2022:
The Manipur Chess Association (MCA) has urged the Sports Minister to take necessary action to cease the activities of a chess association "functioning as an apex body in the State" .
In a letter addressed to the Minister for Sports, Konthoujam Govindas the apex governing body of Chess in the State- Manipur Chess Association stated that one association by the name "Manipur Chess Development Association" is organising a torch relay on July 10 in Imphal as a part of the 44th Chess Olympiad due to be held at Chennai from July 28 to August 10 .
MCA further stated that the said association was currently facing a fake/fraud police case as filed by the MCA for possessing a fake/fraud registration certificate (Regd No 150 of 2007 issued by Sub-Registrar Office, Imphal East) .
An FIR has been registered against the association and investigation is underway in connection with the case, said MCA.
The said body has acted illegally by cheating India's apex body-All India Chess Federation by furnishing a fake registration certificate in order to get affiliation and it amounts to a grave misconduct for an association trying to govern a discipline like chess, said MCA while appealing to the Sports Minister to cease the activities of the association at the earliest in order to save the chess players of the country as a whole.
