Imphal, July 08 2022:
Shija Hospitals & Research Institute (SHRI) on Friday launched Family Adoption Programme under the Department of Community Medicine, Shija Academy of Health Sciences (SAHS) at Langol community hall.
In a release, SHRI informed that the Family Adoption Programme is a new initiative of National Medical Commission (NMC) aimed providing healthcare services in rural areas/outskirts of towns or cities of the country in an equitable manner as well as to impart community-oriented training to the budding Indian Medical graduates.
The programme was mandated on March 31, 2022 by the NMC for inclusion in the MBBS curriculum.
It also mentioned that SAKS is the first medical college in the state to implement family adoption programme.
As part of the programme, each MBBS student will be assigned 2-5 families to visit on a regular basis in order to gather family history, conduct clinical examinations and provide counselling under the supervision of a Mentor (Assistant Professor/Senior Resident/Tutor/Medical Social Worker).
The students will function as the first point of contact for any health issues within the community.
Also, the families will be assisted by the students for referral and hospitalisation if required.
The students will analyse the generated data for improving health outcomes and evidence-based clinical practices.
The community will be provided with annual diagnostic follow-up camps through this initiative, added the release.
This programme aims at developing medical graduates to connect with the society.
They are expected to be more compassionate and in sync with the realities of society.
The event was attended by NG College associate professor Dr Shamurailatpam Santibala Devi as chief guest, SAHS Department of Community Medicine head Dr Toijam Gambhir Singh, Ksh Dhananjoy Meitei and N Munindro Singh as guests of honour and LYDC advisor Moirangthem Basanta Singh as president.
