Students' Union of Kangleipak (SUK) has expressed serious concern over the recent syllabus of Manipuri subject prescribed by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) for the academic session 2022-23 .
SUK in a press release pointed out that the recent CBSE's syllabus of Manipuri subject till Higher secondary level is limited and is not adequate to be studied as a subject.
In view of the above concern, the student body urged the authorities concerned to rectify the syllabus which is filled with anomalies.
Stating that the CBSE has made the syllabus of Manipuri subject in such a manner that the students will not be able be to gain the required knowledge out of it, SUK maintained that CBSE has included only two poetry and two literature pieces in Class 12 syllabus which is really unfortunate.
Raising questions about how a student who has studied only two poetry and two literary pieces throughout a year will pursue higher studies in the desired subject, SUK expressed that the syllabus is devoid of foundational knowledge and routine management.
The student body maintained that such an act from one of the important educational governing bodies like CBSE is highly condemnable which clearly depicts the indifference attitude towards Manipuri subject which has great significance to the students of the State.
Further the student body also expressed shock over the inclusion of the English portion in the Manipuri syllabus of Class 9 .
Acknowledging the above listed shortcomings, the Students' Union of Kangleipak (SUK) appealed to the authorities concerned to probe the matter and take up immediate measures to prescribe a new syllabus of Manipuri subject in the interest of the students and for those who have been striving earnestly for the development of this indigenous language.
