44 Assam Rifles celebrates Harivali Mahotsav

Celebrating the spirit of "Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav", 44 Assam Rifles of 22 Sector AR/IGAR (East) celebrated 'Hariyali Mahotsav' by organising plantation drive at its outpost locations across Tamenglong and Kangpokpi districts.
In a release, PRO (Defence) informed that the objective of the drive was to spread awareness among locals and troops about importance of trees and also of the secondary advantages acquired like prevention of soil erosion and landslides.
The saplings included local varieties like parkia (bitter bean), palm, orange, tamarind, lemon, guava and jackfruit.
The unit also revisited its previously planted saplings at the seven kilometres long 'Rani Gaidinliu Vatika' along NH-137, to ascertain their growth, nutritional requirements, cutting, pruning and weeding process.
The event witnessed personnel of the unit planting fresh saplings to replace the dead ones.
Similar plantation drive were organised by the unit at outpost location in Kangpokpi district.
