Search ops carried out; 2 insurgents arrested

Imphal, July 08 2022:
As part of security measures, Imphal West District Police carried out search operations in different parts of the district and arrested two members belonging to two proscribed outfits.
According to a police report, on receiving information about the presence of some members of the proscribed PREPAK (PRO) in North AOC area on Thursday night, a commando team conducted a search operation and arrested a cadre of PREPAK (PRO) identified as Khunumayum Joychandra alias Chindaia (25) s/o Kh Chaoba of Andro Khuman Leikai, from near Hotel Tampha.
On questioning, Joychandra revealed that he joined the outfit in March, 2022 under one Inaoton of Lamsang and is presently working under one self-styled commander Sharma, currently residing in Myanmar.
As per Sharma's instructions, he (Joychandra) is tasked with making extortion demands at government offices, private institutions and from general populace.
Sharma provided Joychandra a Suzuki Swish (125) and Rs 5000 in cash for the task, which he received in June.
The said vehicle, along with Aadhaar card and one mobile phone was recovered by the police team.
Joychandra has been handed over to Imphal PS for further legal action.
Meanwhile, another commando team of the district arrested a cadre of proscribed RPF/PLA from Pheidinga crossing around 12.30 pm Friday.
The arrested cadre has been identified as Ahongshangbam Wangthoiba alias Akong Meetei (44) s/o (L) Ibohanbi Meetei of Maharabi Maning Leikai.
On questioning, Wangthoiba revealed that he joined the outfit in January, 2017 and is working under one self-styled revenue officer of the outfit, named Hemba alias Tomchou, residing in Myanmar.
Under the command of Hemba, Wangthoiba extorted money from businessmen in Imphal area and the money was sent to the commander via a vehicle operating along Imphal-Moreh route.
The team also recovered a mobile phone from his possession.
Wangthoiba has been handed over Sekmai PS for further legal action.
On the other hand, another District Police Commando team carried out search operations in Kasturi Bridge.
Dharmashala, Ngari Gali, Bora Gali and along Yaima Store areas of Thangal Bazar at around 4.30 pm on Friday.
In all, 127 people were verified, out of which 5 without identification papers were handed over to City PS for further verification.
