Intense survey during poppy plantation season: ASP

Horticulture & Soil Conservation Department, Senapati on Thursday organised an awareness programme cum distribution of planting materials as an alternative to poppy cultivation in hill areas.
Speaking the programme held at DC office complex, Senapati in the presence of additional SP (law & order) Thangkhochon Haokip, among others, Senapati deputy commissioner Mahesh Chaudhari appreciated the Department of Horticulture & Soil Conservation the initiative aimed at aiding the farmers and also advised the farmers to approach the department concerned if they face any problem in plantation for efficient farming methods.
In his address, Thangkhochon Haokip said that Senapati police is the first in the state to arrest poppy cultivators and warned those poppy growers that legal action will be initiated against them as per the law of the land.
He also informed that there would be intense survey during the poppy cultivation season between August and September.
While appreciating CSOs for their cooperation in the war against drugs, the police officer also expressed hope that there will be zero poppy cultivation in the district.
District Horticulture & Soil Conservation officer A Sunita Devi also addressed the gathering comprising a total of 44 farmers from different parts of the district.
They were provided with turmeric and lemon saplings.
