Hariyali Mahotsav 2022 celebration begins

Forest Minister, Th Biswajit today led a mass tree plantation drive at Waithou Protected Reserved Forest.
The drive was organised by Thoubal Forest Division to celebrate "Hariyali Mahotsav 2022" .
It was attended by PCCF, Dr Ak Joshi; CCF TP-1, L Joykumar; Thoubal Forest Division DFO, Th Lokendro; Central Forest Division DFO, Rk Amarjit; members of Wildlife and Biodiversity Conservation Committee (WBCC), volunteers of Joint Co-ordination Committee on Wildlife & Biodiversity (JCCWB), students, NCC cadets and officials of Forest Department.
Speaking on the occasion, Th Biswajit stated that "Hariyali Mahotsav 2022" was launched today to create awareness about the importance of trees in sustaining not only the life of the present generations but also to secure the future of forthcoming generations.

The Minister appreciated the students for taking part in the drive and urged them to plant more trees.
As part of the event, Romesh N, convenor of JCCWB also reportedly submitted a memorandum to the Forest Minister demanding rehabilitation for persons affected by evictions carried out in Protected/Reserved Forest Area, remove Loktak Lake from Montreux Record, organise Migratory Birds Festival, establish Model Green Village in every Assembly Constituency, boost Green Manipur mission and launch similar initiative for conservation of wildlife.
Moreover, in line with the observance of Hariyali Mahotsav, the Forest Department also organised a tree plantation drive at Heingang Reserved Forest in Imphal East District.
It was participated by Forest Minister Th Biswajit; Dr AK Joshi; Central Forest Division DFO, RK Amarjit; members of Heingang Awang Leikai Development Committee and officials of the department.
Similarly, 44 Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ 22 Sector AR/ IGAR (East) also organised plantation drives at its outposts located across Tamenglong and Kangpokpi districts to commemorate Hariyali Mahotsav.
The unit also revisited its previously planted saplings at "Rani GaidinliuVatika" along NH-137 to ascertain their growth, nutritional requirements, cutting, pruning and weeding process, said a release issued by PIB Defence Wing.
