The Regional News Unit (RNU) under Prasar Bharati (Broadcasting Corporation of India) has decided to include headlines from newspapers published in the State's hill districts in the press review of its 7.30 AM Manipuri News Bulletin broadcast by All India Radio, Imphal with effect from December 1 .
Manipur Hill Journalists' Union (MHJU) president, Peter Adani wrote a missive to the Assistant Director of Regional News Unit, All India Radio, Imphal on November 26, seeking inclusion of headlines published in hill-based newspapers in the morning news bulletin.
"RNU Imphal has thoroughly analyzed the letter and decided to include the headlines of Hill based newspapers in the 7.30 AM Manipuri Bulletin broadcast by AIR Imphal in the larger interest of people," Assistant Director (News) Gin Gangte stated in a response letter on the same day, November 26, 2021 .
"It is a historic moment for RNU to introduce hill-based newspapers in the 7.30 AM Manipuri Bulletin," the AIR officer stated and informed that RNU Imphal has tentatively decided to include the headlines along with gist of the news from December 1 .
"The modus operandi of the said initiative is to provide PDF format of the newspapers to our concerned Part Time Correspondents (PTC) stationed in the districts on or before 12.00 midnight for preparation of headlines or gist of news to the team of RNU stationed in Imphal," the officer explained.
Gangte went on to assure that the news or headlines related to the concerned districts would be given priority while preparing the presentation in the 7.30 AM Manipuri bulletin.
Peter Adani had mentioned in his missive that "the broadcasting of All India Radio (AIR)-Imphal prime time 7:30 AM news continues to be the most reliable and effective medium of disseminating information and news especially, to remote villages in the hill districts of Manipur" .
The particular section of press review in the bulletin wherein headlines published in newspapers are reviewed, serves as both eye and ear for the listeners in remote areas of the state, he said.
The MHJU leader anticipated that the proposal would certainly provide a window into the happenings in the remote parts of the State and assured that "the union is ready to help the news team of AIR Imphal to work out the initiative" .
