Officials of Water Resources Department presented a detail report on their preparations to tackle floods.
Chief Secretary Dr J Suresh Babu directed DCs concerned to remove all structures built within six metres of Nambul River banks, conveyed a source.
Notably, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) has already passed an order whereby the State Government was directed to pay Rs one crore every month for the highly polluted status of Nambul River.
The meeting decided that PWD, MAHUD and PDA would declog all drains which fall into Nambul River so that water flows freely into the river when there is heavy and/or continuous rainfall.
Moreover, LDA was entrusted to dredge Manipur River as NHPC takes charge of Khordak and Water Resources Department would dredge Imphal River, said the source.
As decided at the meeting, Water Resources Department would identify areas which are prone to floods and breaching of river banks, and also to gather flood fighting materials at nearby places.
The meeting also discussed about renovating community ponds and water reservoirs so as to make them suitable for harvesting rain water.
The officials further discussed about harvesting rain water in Government office buildings too.
Another agenda which figured at the meeting was garbage disposal.
It is reported that due process has been initiated to geo-tag irrigation projects taken up by Minor Irrigation Department.
On the other hand, farmers in the State are yet to start the process of sowing paddy seeds on account of inadequate rainfall.
Experts have already pointed out that farmers would face a very difficult situation if paddy seeds are not sown and transplanted by July 15 .
