Imphal, June 22 2019:
In a very gruesome incident, a 60 year old man was found brutally hacked to death at Isok Maning Chingya along the Isok-Wangoi inter village road under Wangoi PS, Imphal West district, today afternoon.
According to information gathered from the spot and police, the deceased has been identified as Tongbram Maipak 60 s/o (L) Nobin of Naorem Makha Leikai.
The incident came to light when some passers-by came across the dead body lying at the road side drain and quickly informed the police.
Soon after, a team of Wangoi police arrived at the spot and cordoned off the dead body and its surrounding area for necessary inquest by the State forensic science expert team.
Later, Additional SP Law and Order Imphal West Sarangthem Hemanta also came to the spot to look after the dead body.
Multiple stab marks suspected to be made by a sharp object were found on the backside of the deceased all the way from the head to the hip.
The body was later picked up and deposited at RIMS morgue.
One Nabachandra, a close friend of the deceased Maipak, stated that Maipak visited his residence at Waheng Khuman for some works and went home at around 1.30 pm today riding his bicycle.
It may be mentioned that the incident occurred around one kilometre away from Maipak's residence.
According to the daughter of the deceased, she heard the news about the presence of a dead body at around 2.10 pm but when she reached the spot, she found that the dead body was of her father.
She also stated that her father had no animosity with anyone but she revealed that there was an incident some years back within their own family members which was also resolved far back.
On the other hand, according to the locals, there was an incident among the family some three years back allegedly involving use of 'black magic' by the deceased but the matter was resolved among the family in presence of local club and Meira Paibies.
Later, police arrested Tongbram Inao (54), brother of the deceased, and his (Inao) son Tumba (21), of Naorem Makha Leikai in connection with the case.
A sword used in the commission of the crime was also seized by the police based on disclosure by Inao.
Sources mentioned that the motive behind the murder is not clear as the investigation is in the initial stage and an FIR has been registered against the two accused.
It is highly suspected that Maipak might have been stabbed to death in the middle of the road and then his body was thrown into the road side drain as blood stains were found in the middle of the road.
There were also signs of confrontation at the incident site as a broken watch of the deceased and buttons of his shirt were also found in the middle of the road near the blood stain and his bicycle was also found near the drain.
