Stating that two personnel of 39 Assam Rifles were killed when improvised explosive devices exploded close to the international border, a statement issued by 57 Mountain Division said the proscribed PREPAK suffered atleast five fatal casualties.
A statement issued by the 57 Mountain Division said on January 16, 39 Assam Rifles of 27 sector AR under the aegis of Red Shield Division disrupted a major infiltration bid by UGs to upset the election process in the State.
Based on a specific intelligence report, a reconnaissance patrol was sent out to dominate portion of international border.
At around 10 am, the patrol party was crossing a field of 600-700 metres short of the international border when the leading scouts came upon IEDs which brought down two troops of the AR unit, informed the statement.
