Sit-in-protest held against the molestation of a girl

Imphal, January 16, 2012:
The joint action committee constituted against the molestation of a class IV girl student at Hatta organised a protest demonstration in denunciation of the lackadaisical attitude of police in taking action against the culprit today.
The protest which was organised at Hatta used banner which read as "instead of giving befitting punishment, police have been condoning the culprit, we condemn such act".
The incident occurred at Hatta area on January 14 at around 2 pm when the 11 years old victim went out for shopping.
The person who was allegedly involved in molesting the girl was picked up by a team of Imphal East police from the spot.
The mother of the victim child was also hurt during the people's agitation raged against the police for rescuing the culprit without considering the public sentiment.
Speaking to the press, the mother of the victim said that police are condoning the culprit instead of initiating legal actions against him.
She maintained that JAC members went to Porompat police station yesterday to enquire if any legal actions has been initiated but the police personnel responded hat the culprit was sent to the judicial custody and even asked to repair the broken front shield of the Gypsy which was broken during public agitation.
