Puya meithaba fortnight observation concludes

The fortnight long observation of the 283rd Puya Meithaba commemoration day concluded today with a formal valedictory function organised jointly by Meetei national Front and International Observation Committee on Puya (ICOP) Meithaba at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen.
Presentation of awards, obeisance to the forefathers and observance of two minutes silence were the highlight of the event graced by the presence of titular king of Manipur Leishemba Sanajaoba, ICOP chairman RV Mingthing, vice chairman Sairem Nilbir and various other eminent citizens of the State.
While noted writer cum playwright Oinam Chana Lukhoi was conferred with the Machou Ningshing award popular folk artiste cum folk music exponent Rewben Mashangva and his son Saka Mashangva were honoured with the presentation of Chingtam Ningshing award.
Each of the awards carried Rs 10,000, certificate and traditional scarves.
Puya Meithaba observance is an event commemorating the day when the sacred chronicles were consigned to flames at the behest of Bengali scholar Santidas Gosai in the 18th century.
