LHDC launches clean-up drive

With a view to keep the historic Leishang Hiden canal neat and clean, the Leishang Hiden Development Committee (LHDC), Canchipur has launched a cleanup drive of the canal starting from Kyamgei Shantipur today.
Before the drive was launched, a public rally cum meeting was held at Heijigang, opposite to MU main gate.
Keirao A/C MLA Thamarjit Karam also took part in the public rally cum meeting.
Placards which read as "Water is life", "Let's save Leishang Hiden", "Historic Leishang Hiden is the State's asset" etc were put up.
MLA Thamarjit, Kyamgei GP Pradhan and LHDC president Koijam Subhash and Standard Robarth Higher Secondary School Principal Ph Landhoni attended the meeting as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Speaking about the cleanup drive, LHDC working president LC Romesh said that Leishang Hiden canal has been polluted and dirtied because some people have been using it as a garbage dumping site and camp site by some people and contractors.
He said that the cleanup drive is aimed at making the historic canal a pollution free water body which can also serve as reliable source of water during lean season.
LHDC chief advisor Haobam Sanajaoba remarked that Leishang Hiden occupies an important place in Manipuri civilization.
He also expressed keen desire for proper development and management of Leishang Hiden on PPP model.
MLA Thamarjit assured all possible assistance to the LHDC in all its efforts to keep the water body neat and clean.
