Imphal, December 26 2013:
Technology Week 2013, a multi-event agricultural programme organised by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Utlou under Bishnupur district aimed at familiarising the farmers with the latest technological advancement got underway at KVK, Bishnupur campus from today.
As chief guest of the inauguration programme, direc- tor of Extension Education (CAU) Prof M Premjit Singh said with agriculture being an age-old practice associated with every community there is a tendency among the older generation to persist with the traditional method rather than adopt new technologies that could ensure higher yield.
Noting that due to the presence of the Loktak Lake fish farming is one of the most preferred agricultural activities in Bishnupur district, Prof Premjit suggested that the district farmers undertake winter crop plantation to ensure that the fields do not remain barren after the paddy harvest season.
According to KVK Bishnupur programme Coordinator Dr RK Imotomba Singh, Bishnupur was the first district in the State to experiment with large scale fish farming and fingerlings spawning project in a commercial manner.
Along with sustaining fish farming activities crop plantation needs to be developed with similar enthusiasm so that Manipur do not depend on food item supply from other States.
The first day also had lecture sessions by KVK Thoubal Programme Coordinator Dr M Thoithoi and SMS Agronomy (KVK, Bpr) Dr Sakhen Sorokhaibam.
