Cabinet okays corporatisation of Power Department

A Cabinet meeting held today has agreed in principle to convert Electricity Department into a corporation.
However, actual work for converting the department into a corporation would begin from February next year.
Government spokesman M Okendro said that the State Cabinet presided by Chief Minister O Ibobi, after minute deliberation, agreed in principle to convert Electricity Department into a corporation.
The Cabinet meeting also reviewed the earlier decision to cancel appointment of transport contractors for the four valley districts under Targeted Public Distribution System (TDPS) .
Earlier, the Government decided to entrust the task of lifting PDS commodities to respective district administration in place of transport contractors.
The Cabinet meeting reviewed the same decision in view of the busy schedule and increasing work load of Deputy Commissioners.
Another agenda of the meeting was implementation of the National Food Security Act in the State from March next year.
It decided to instruct all DCs/ADCs to identify priority households within their respective districts/sub-divisions by January 15 at the latest.
After undertaking a publicity campaign, DCs/ADCs should issue application forms for identifying priority household and collection of forms should be completed by January 10 .
Moreover, additional Fair Price Shops would be opened in each and every Assembly segment in order to implement the National Food Security Act effectively.
The meeting decided to construct the additional FPSs from the MLA Local Area Development Fund of MLAs concerned.
It also resolved to prorogue the 6th session of the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly.
Another resolution of the Cabinet was establishment of the State Society for Management of Institute of Hotel Management, Okendro conveyed.
