Imphal, December 26 2013:
Reiterating the demand to revive the disbanded Manipur University Students' Union (MUSU), the MUSU Revival Demand Committee has questioned whether the Vice Chancellor has any vested interest in raising objection to the revival of MUSU.
Speaking to media persons at the office of Dean of Students' Welfare, convenor of the committee Thokchom Suresh said that they submitted a charter of demands to the President of India, the Human Resource Development Minister and the Governor of India on December 9 with an appeal to fulfil the same demands by December 20 .
The demands were revival of MUSU, filling in the vacant posts of Pro VC, Finance Officer and Controller of Examinations, framing a research policy for students doing research in the State and bringing a solution to the agitation of Manipur University Teachers Association (MUTA) .
However, nothing has been done till date with regard to these demands.
In the first phase of students' agitation, students wore black badges, hoisted black flags over all departments, carried signature campaign and distributed pamphlets.
Since the day MUSU was disbanded, MU's performance in terms of academic, cultural and sporting aspects has degraded.
So far, the Vice Chancellor has been only dilly-dallying the demand of reviving MUSU and this is highly condemnable, Suresh said.
There is no guarantee that there would be no intense agitation and the academic atmosphere is not vitiated in case the charter demands is not translated into action at the earliest.
This time, the agitation would go until and unless all the demands are fulfilled.
The convenor also sought support from research scholars, teaching and non-teaching staff, college level student unions and State level student unions for their cause.
