Ukhrul, July 20 2021:
Amid the widespread vaccine hesitancy in Ukhrul district, as many as 431 people took the Covid vaccine during a mass vaccination camp in Ringui village on Tuesday.
"This is the highest-ever number of people taking Covid vaccine in a single day, ever witnessed in villages in Chin-gai and this is, indeed, a good sign in current fight against the deadly virus," said Chingai MLA Khashim Vashum, who stepped in to personally oversee the conduct of the camp.
The record-setting inoculation came weeks after mass vaccination was initiated across villages in Chingai assembly constituency where the public turnout had not been up to the mark.
Elated at the impressive turnout, the MLA went on to urge all people to come forward and take the vaccine in order to defeat the virus collectively.
Extolling the locals for their positive response, he also appealed to the villagers to continue to follow the mandatory safety protocol including wearing of mask, hand washing and social distance.
The mass vaccination camp was organised by Covid-19 Committee of Ringui village in association with The Indigenous Foundation (TIF) at the village's high school campus.
Of the 431 people who took the vaccine during the camp, 311 were in the age group of 18 years and above, 76 beneficiaries in 45 years and above, and 44 in 60 years and above categories.
During the camp, a total of five nurses assisted by ASHA workers, administered the vaccine under the supervision of Dr Shambu Tongbram at five vaccination counters.
On behalf of the 45-Chingai Assembly Segment COVID-19 Awareness cum Enforcement Committee, MLA Khashim congratulated the Ringui Village Authority, local Covid committee, TIF and the medical team for the successful initiative.
He is the chairman of the committee.
As a gesture of his support and encouragement, Khashim then proceeded and dispensed monetary incentives to the medical team and ASHA workers on his own.
He also extended financial assistance to the local Covid committee to meet the requirements in conducting the camp.
SDO LM Block Nimmi Khamrang, local headman Wungmatem A Shimray, local Covid committee convenor MK Semmi, TIF director AC Raising and others attended the camp.
