Imphal, July 20 2021:
By developing Loktak Lake into an international tourism spot, not only will it help bring in more recognition to Manipur through tourists, but will also help the state to become self-sustainable, said Manipur People's Party (MPP).
In a statement, MPP vice president Dr S Ibochouba pointed out that Loktak Lake is an indispensible part of the state, both historically and economically.
If the tourism attracting attributes of the lake were to be enhanced, it would not only bring in more recognition but help in development of the state and increase connectivity at international level.
Stating that the Manipur Loktak Development Authority is over 25 years old, the vice president recounted that huge funds were sanctioned for the development of the Lake including sanctioning of Rs 400 crore during the time of then CM Ibobi, the whereabouts of which are now unknown.
"BJP had also sanctioned crore of funds for the same but no action has been taken up", he said, while adding that MPP, if it were to come to power again, would focus on developing the Lake into an international tourism spot.
