Seized fertilizers to be sold at MRP through open sale: DM

The District Magistrate, Thoubal, Rangnamei Rang Peter, in exercise of the power conferred under Section 6(A)(2) of the Essential Commodities Act, has ordered the seized fertilizers to be sold at the MRP through open sale.
A press release issued by the DM Thoubal mentioned that the sale proceeds, after deduction of expenses of sale, would be' paid to the owner or the person whom it was seized.
Earlier, a report of seizure of fertilizers dated July 19 from some shops located at Samaram Lamkhai for selling the fertilizers at higher rate as compared to its MRP, was submitted by Inspector, K Santosh Singh, OC Khongjom Police Station.
As per the report, Konsam Mohori Singh (42), son of K Shamu Singh of Samaram Mamang Leikai was found selling super bags at the rate Rs 730 per bag while the MRP per super bag is Rs 500 .
Following which, 20 numbers of super bags were seized from the shop.
Another person, Chanambam Sharat Singh (50), son of (L) Ch Gouramani Singh of Samaram Lamkhai was found selling potash and daimond at Rs 1250 & Rs 1800 per bag respectively while the MRP for potash per bag is Rs 875 and Daimond is Rs 480 per bag.
This being the reason, 24 number of potash bags and 5 number of daimond which were found in the shop were seized.
The DM also mentioned that keeping in mind the immediate requirement of fertilizers by farmers, the seized fertilizers should be made available to the farmers at MRP through open sale.
