Imphal, July 20 2021:
All Manipur Tribal Union refuted the claim of Coordinating Body Khurai published in the state dailies on July 18 regarding Article 371(C) of the Indian Constitution and advised the Khurai body to refrain from raking up such sensitive political issues to avert communal discord and socio-political upheaval in Manipur.
In a release, the Union said, "it is not a good harbinger to undermine Manipur Tribal People's exceptional Constitutional rights under Article 371 (C) as though it is just a jhumming farm easily shiftable.
We all are aware of the Indian Constitution and Article 371(C) is one of the exceptional Articles promulgated as an Act" .
It stressed that it is premature to spew "snaky venom" in the multi-cultural mosaic society of Manipur and pointed out that Jammu & Kashmir's political history and subject is different from that of the North East India.
Every north-eastern state has its own amended Article of 371 Clause with A, B, C, D, E, F and G wherein provisions are same.
Redundant articles can either be amended or abrogated by the Indian Parliament, however, until such is done, an Act is an Act as long as it exists, the release said.
