River Lift Irrigation (RLI) scheme inaugurated

A River Lift Irrigation (RLI) Scheme taken up at Mayang Imphal Yurembam Awang Leikai was inaugurated today by MLA Dr Kh Ratankumar.
It is expected that the scheme can irrigate 15/16 hectares of agricultural fields.
Speaking at the inaugural function, Ratankumar claimed that Mayang Imphal has witnessed many developmental changes in the last few years as a result of sustained efforts in the fields of roads and bridges, safe drinking water, power and health care.
He informed that due sanction has been made for taking a water supply scheme at the cost of Rs 23 crores for supplying potable water to Mayang Imphal Municipal Council area.
Saying that the State Government has issued an order for collection of tax from farmers using water provided by RLI schemes, Ratankumar explained that tax rate is Rs 214 to Rs 356 per hectare during rabi and kharif seasons and Rs 713 per hectare during pre-kharif season.
The tax collected from farmers would be used in maintaining RLI schemes, the MLA said while appealing to the farmers to pax tax in time.
He further announced that plans are afoot to open an SBI branch at Mayang Imphal.
