JSYC win Winners Cup first-leg final

J Songtun Youth Club (JSYC), Sadar Hills scored an emphatic 3-1 victory over AMOFA, Moirang in the first final of the 16th M Chittamani Singh Memorial Winners Cup 2011 football tournament played today at Thomas Ground, Kangpokpi.
Backed by the home supporters, JSYC played an attacking game from the first whistle consequently breaching the AMOFA defence when Thangjahao slammed home the opening goal in the 19th minute.
Even though the Moirang side restored parity in first half injury time through Minthang, the goal only spurred the host team to come out after the break with an even more determination to seal the home advantage.
JSYC laying seige at the rival half for most of the second period eventually managed to retain the lead from a Letjahao strike in the 66th minute before Thangjahao netted his second of the match in the 80th minute to ensure the Sadar Hills side take on the Moirang side in the second leg final at Bishnupur Mini Stadium on October 18 with a two goal advantage.
In the otherwise absorbing contest, Thangmang and Thangkholun of JSYC were yellow carded for unsporting conduct.
In addition to a large gathering of home fans, the first final was witnessed by Chief Executive Officer of SHADC, Kangpokpi Chongpu Kipgen as the chief guest.
Inter district football: Imphal East DFA outlasted Imphal West DFA 5-2 to emerge as the champions of the 15th Sub Junior Boys Inter District Football Tournament which concluded at Mapal Kangjeibung today.
Y Bishan (10th), S Krishnakanta (21st), Ksh Ajit (40+1), Raj Shah (66th) and Th James scored one apiece to help Imphal East round off the league competition with 13 points, one more than second-placed DSA, Sadar Hills who had already completed its campaign.
In the other match played today, DFA (Thoubal) pipped DSA, Kakching 4-3 with Hormy Arthury (9th) opening the score, M Amarjit netting two (33rd, 45th) and T Kenedy ensuring victory with a 61st minute goal.
Biolence (16th, 60th) and Wanglen (42nd) scored for the Kakching side, who ended at the bottom of the table with one a point.
Third placed DFA, Thoubal was followed in fourth and fifth positions by Bishnupur and IEDFA respectively.
