The fifth annual conference of All Manipur Shops and Establishment Employee Association was held at Irawat Bhawan BT Road today with Labour Minister P Parijat Singh and DLC Labour Department E Tomba Singh as the chief guest and president respectively.
CPI Manipur State Council General Secretary L Sotin Kumar Singh and AMSEEA president S Chandramani Singh graced the occasion as the guests of honour.
Addressing the gathering, Minister Parijat called upon Association functionaries to formally enlist problems or rights of its associate units and workers in the unorganised sector.
In case the Labour Department is found to be delaying mandatory procedures punitive action would be initiated against the erring officials, he cautioned.
Speaking at the occasion, L Sotinkumar noted need for amending Shops and Establishment Employee 1972 Act besides highlighting that it is the responsibility of the office of the Deputy Labour Commissioner to ensure right of the employees.
He also called upon employees of shops and establishments to share their views and suggestions on relevant issues.
While stating that there is need for developing towns in all the other districts of Manipur to absorb the ever growing number of consumers, Sotinkumar announced that an awareness programme on building and other construction workers would be organised tomorrow by All India Trade Union Congress.
